Summary
Mental Health Laws and Policies born in different cultural backgrounds define when and how a patient should receive an
involuntary treatment. In examining various cases, the colloquium seeks to compare how mental health policies in different
countries would respond to such cases and limitations of those measures.
KCGAT Participation
Professor Cheolung Je introduces the mental health policy in Taiwan and the ongoing public concern about safety that
undermines the rights of persons with mental illness and their chances of social integration. The presentation addresses legal
practitioners, psychiatrists, and social workers to fulfill their tasks.
Professor Youngpyo Lee explains the revision process, the content, and the goal of Mental Health Act (2016), and suggests
the ways in which this Act can help the people with mental illness successfully integrate into their community.
