Summary

Caring the elderly and the persons with disabilities and considering their right to self-determination should go hand in hand.
With the experts in the field of elderly care and adult guardianship, this international conference aims to discuss ways in which people with limited mental capacities can exercise their civil and legal rights, and the forms of assistance in the process of
decision making.

KCGAT Participation

Professor Yun-young Choi talked about the role of the Korean Public Guardianship system in advocating the rights of people with developmental disabilities. He calls attention to the need to increase public understanding of the new system and expand the potential recipients of the service.

Professor Youngpyo Lee gave a presentation on the inadequate welfare service for the people with mental illness and the
recent changes in laws and policies that aim to fill the lack.

Professor Cheoulung Je led the discussion about the supported decision making process in the current social security system.
